Meet our Herd Stallion, Cheese

“WM I’m an Oak” aka “Cochise” is a 2018 registered Appaloosa Sport Horse out of an ApHC mare by the warmblood stallion, High Five WW. High Five competed with success in the Grand Prix and Olympics! Cochise’s dam is from Prince Plaudit bloodlines and contributed his spots and the best temperament you could ask for.

Cochise is DNA tested through Etalon Equine Genetics and is 5 panel negative. He can contribute appaloosa markings a height factor, non-dun primitive markings, and chrome 🤍 to his foals.

Powerful, versatile, and calm enough to hop on bareback in the pasture, Cochise quickly wins a place in your heart when you spend any time with him. We have plans for him in competitive trail and endurance competitions. As of now, he has proved himself on some of the toughest trails in Middle TN while teaching jumping lessons at home. Gotta love a well-rounded and handsome guy!

What Care Do Our Foals Receive Before Going to Their New Home?

Before any of our foals are ready for their new homes, they receive attentive, thoughtful care every step of the way. From birth to weaning, here’s what we provide to ensure they grow up healthy, confident, and well-prepared for the next chapter:

DNA Testing of Parents
All of our stock are DNA tested by Etalon Equine Genetics to ensure they are 5 panel negative for genetic disease. The testing also allows us to make diligent choices about performance and temperament to protect a future foal’s welfare before they hit the ground.

Imprinting at Birth
We begin handling our foals right after birth using gentle imprinting techniques. This early exposure helps them become comfortable with human touch, sounds, and movement. It sets the tone for trust, confidence, and easier training down the road.

Daily Handling & Manners
From gentle encounters with petting and grooming early on, to haltering, leading, picking up feet and standing tied, our foals are handled daily to build respectful habits and confidence. We also introduce them to grooming, fly spray, and basic vet/farrier etiquette early on to reduce stress later.

Comprehensive Vet & Farrier Care
Our foals follow a consistent schedule for deworming, vaccinations, and trims. All of our appaloosa bloodlines are additionally vaccinated for Leptospira to help combat the breed’s susceptibility. We start them early with the farrier to maintain correct limb alignment and healthy hoof development.

Turnout & Herd Etiquette
We believe in letting babies be babies. Our foals are raised in safe, spacious turnout areas where they can move freely, learn to navigate terrain, and interact with other horses. This helps them develop good minds, strong bodies, and important social skills.

Mental Wellness

Foals raised here are never rushed or overwhelmed. We take pride in helping each one grow into a curious, confident partner by allowing them to explore the world in a calm, structured environment.

Whether you’re looking for your next competitor or a future family companion, you can feel confident knowing our foals are raised with intention, integrity, and heart from the very beginning.

We have been breeding top-quality Walkaloosas since 1983 and we export horses worldwide.  We stand two Walkaloosa stallions:  Ace’s Flashy Cut, a 15 hand black leopard that is homozygous for DMRT3(Gait) and saddle rack gaited at liberty.  Ace is a great match for solid or appaloosa patterned mares.  And  Sequoia's Double Trouble, a 15 hand solid black that carries PATN1 and is homozygous for DMRT3 and naturally gaited with both rack and running walk gaits.  Trouble is a perfect match for mares that already carry the LP gene for appaloosa coat patterns.  Both stallions and their get are smart, willing, and conformationally correct.  Most of our breeding stock  are homozygous for DMRT3 and 90% of our foals are homozygous for gait as we are several generations into Walkaloosa to Walkaloosa breeding.  We usually have foals for sale during foaling season, but they sell quickly so we recommend you ask to be on our waiting list of qualified buyers.    Find us on Facebook as "Tenmile Walkaloosas" or visit our webpage at tenmilewalkaloosas.com.  Also check us out on Discover the Horse’s episode about the Walkaloosa breed: https://www.discoverthehorse.com/horses/walkaloosa.
